Iowa 80, Coppin State 50: Aaron
White had a team-high 20 points to lead the Hawkeyes to an easy
non-conference win over the visiting Eagles.
White was 7-for-8 from the field as Iowa (11-2) shot 51.7 percent as a team. Gabriel Olaseni was 6-for-8 shooting on his way to 14 points off the bench. He also grabbed seven boards as the Hawkeyes dominated the glass, 50-27.
The game was tied 7-7 early in the first half when Iowa went on a 17-2 run to break the game open. After Coppin State (3-10) cut the lead to 11 with 5:26 to play, the Hawkeyes closed the half with a 16-1 run to forge a 26-point halftime advantage.
Sterling Smith, Troy Franklin and Andre Armstrong each scored nine to pace the Eagles. Coppin State shot just 29.2 percent from the field.
Iowa failed to hit a 3-pointer in 17 attempts from beyond the arc. It's the first time this season the Hawkeyes haven't recorded a trey.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Coppin State scored just 14 points in the first half - and that isn't even the Eagles' worst half of the year. They managed just eight in a loss to Florida Atlantic on Nov. 17. … Iowa improved to 9-0 at home this season. The Hawkeyes are just 2-2 away from Carver-Hawkeye Arena. … Coppin State gets a week off before it travels to face Arizona State on Dec. 29. The Hawkeyes open Big Ten Conference play New Year's Eve against Indiana.
