Pittsburgh 74, Detroit 61: Talib Zanna scored a team-high 16 points, including seven during a decisive late run, as the Panthers came from behind to beat the visiting Titans.
Freshman James Robinson had the other seven points during a 14-2 run that turned a tie game into a 63-51 lead for Pittsburgh (7-1) with 4:02 remaining. The Panthers did not allow Detroit (2-4) to get closer than eight the rest of the way to earn the 1,500th victory in their 106-year history.
Tray Woodall registered 14 points and Lamar Patterson chipped in 12 for Pittsburgh, which limited its turnovers and attacked Detroit’s zone better in the second half. Robinson had nine of his 11 points in the final 7:38.
Ray McCallum scored 24 points and Evan Bruinsma added 14 for Detroit, which has lost three straight.
The Titans put together a 23-4 run to lead by as many 13 in the first half. McCallum scored 17 and Jason Calliste had 10, combining for five 3-pointers, and the Titans settled for a 37-29 halftime advantage. Detroit did not score the first 6:21 of the second half as the Panthers tied it at 37. Calliste finished with 12 points.
