Jared Cunningham scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half and ninth-seeded Oregon State held off eighth-seeded Stanford 69-67 Wednesday in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament in Los Angeles.
Devon Collier had a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds for Oregon State (10-19), which will face top-seed Arizona on Thursday in the quarterfinals. Joe Burton had a career-high 14 rebounds in the Beavers’ first Pac-10 tournament win since 2006.
Jeremy Green led Stanford with 25 points and was 7 for 15 from 3-point range. Green made three 3-pointers in the final two minutes as Stanford pulled to within 67-65 with 11 seconds left, but Jarrett Mann missed two free throws that would have tied the game.
Stanford (15-15), which was 4 of 34 from the field in the first half, trailed 26-18 at halftime before it opened the second half with a 15-8 run that tied the game at 34 with 15:46 remaining.
Dwight Powell and Anthony Brown had 11 points and eight rebounds apiece for Stanford, which finished 20 for 61 from the field, including 8 of 24 on 3-pointers.
Oregon State entered the tournament having lost six of its last seven games, including Saturday’s loss at Arizona State when coach Craig Robinson benched five starters for curfew violations. All five played against Stanford, including Ahmad Starks, who finished with 15 points.
