Mike Davis scored 22 points, leading No. 24 Illinois past visiting Penn State 68-51 on Tuesday night.
The win broke the Illini's two-game losing streak and avenged a 57-55 defeat at Penn State on Jan. 11.Penn State guard Talor Battle, the second-leading scorer in the Big Ten, was held to 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting. He came into the game averaging 20.4 points.
Davis was 7 of 14 from the field, 8 of 10 from the line, and he added seven rebounds.
Bill Cole and D.J. Richardson scored 10 points apiece for Illinois (15-7, 5-4 Big Ten), which took the lead for good, 5-4, on Davis' dunk at the 18:16 mark of the first half. The Illini led 33-24 at halftime and pulled away in the second half.
Tim Frazier had 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists for Penn State (12-9, 5-5 Big Ten), which shot 33.3 percent (17 of 51), including 2-of-17 from the arc.Forward Jeff Brooks, Penn State's second-leading scorer, left the game late in the first half with a dislocated right shoulder. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday. Brooks, who averages 13.8 points, had seven points.
