No. 8 Texas used its patented tough defense to shut down the best scoring team in the Big 12 and cruise to a 71-58 win over No. 13 Missouri Saturday in Austin, Texas.
Missouri (17-4, 3-3 Big 12) came in averaging 80.8 points, but Texas (18-3, 6-0) frustrated the Tigers into 33.9 shooting, and 4 for 18 from 3-point range.
The Longhorns scored the game's first 11 points and snapped their three-game losing streak to Missouri. Texas made 52 percent of its field goals, and outrebounded the Tigers 40-28.
Jordan Hamilton scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, and Gary Johnson added 15 to propel the Longhorns to their 12th win in 13 games.
Phil Pressey led the Tigers with 12 points, and Kim English added 10.
Laurence Bowers, a forward averaging 11.5 points per game for the Tigers, did not return after he was inadvertently elbowed in the face during the first half.
