Kemba Walker led the way with 20 points and five rebounds and Jeremy Lamb added 16 and seven as No. 4 Connecticut topped Coppin State, 76-64, on Monday.
Alex Oriakhi finished with 12 points and seven boards and Roscoe Smith pulled down 10 rebounds for the Huskies (9-0), who dominated the glass, 55-23.
Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun expressed some concern recently about the interior depth of his team leading up to the Big East, and if he was looking for more rebounders, he certainly found them on Monday as seven players finished with at least five boards.
The Huskies shot only 32 percent in the first half but still took a 39-21 lead into the break thanks to their strength on the inside. They outrebounded Coppin State 34-9 in the first half.
The poor shooting continued in the second half, allowing the Eagles to sneak to within 66-56 with 6:03 remaining. But Lamb hit a jumper and Smith blocked a shot as UConn took control again.
Tony Gallo scored 17 points for Coppin State (4-4), which still has to face Wisconsin, Kentucky and Texas during their six-game road trip.
