Quinn Hughes had a goal and three assists to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 6-2 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

The red-hot Canucks are on a four-game winning streak and an eight-game points streak (7-0-1).

Vancouver's Brock Boeser scored two goals, J.T. Miller had a goal and an assist, and Filip Hronek had two assists. Pius Suter and Nils Hoglander netted the Canucks' other goals.

Thatcher Demko stopped 40 of 42 shots for his seventh win in nine starts this season.

Hughes leads all NHL defensemen with 20 points (five goals, 15 assists), and he has tallied at least three points in three of his past four games.

Mattias Ekholm and Leon Draisaitl scored for the Oilers, who have lost three in a row amidst a dismal 2-8-1 start to the season. Three of the eight regulation losses were at the hands of the Canucks, who outscored Edmonton 18-6 over the three games.

Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner stopped 30 of 36 shots on Monday.

The contest began in very promising fashion for Edmonton, which outshot the Canucks by a whopping 17-2 margin over the game's first 10 minutes. The attack included Ekholm's power-play goal 6:41 into the game.

Unfortunately for the Oilers, their early control evaporated due to a mistake from defenseman Vincent Desharnais. At 11:30 of the first period, Hughes' shot in front deflected off Desharnais' stick and into the net for the equalizer.

Hughes' tally was the first of three goals for Vancouver over a 3:22 span, with Suter and Boeser also scoring to quickly put the Canucks ahead. Boeser's goal came on a power play.

Draisaitl and Hoglander exchanged goals during the second period. One minute into the third frame, Edmonton's Warren Foegele had a would-be goal overturned when a video review determined that the Oilers forward kicked the puck into the net.

The Oilers' frustration boiled over with six penalties in the third period, resulting in power-play goals from Miller and Boeser. Edmonton's list of penalties included a 10-minute misconduct on Draisaitl and the ejection of head coach Jay Woodcroft on an unsportsmanlike-conduct call.

Hronek has 10 assists and no goals over a seven-game points streak.
