Stars captain Joe Pavelski scored 2:13 into overtime as host Dallas beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 on Saturday night.
Dallas took an early 2-0 lead, only for Philadelphia to erase it by the end of the first period. Though the Stars restored their two-goal lead at 4-2, Travis Konecny and Sean Walker each scored to tie the score late in the final frame.
Flyers head coach John Tortorella gave 25-year-old starting goaltender Carter Hart a rest day, leaving Samuel Ersson, who finished with 20 saves, to make his season debut. Felix Sandstrom served as the backup.
The game did not begin smoothly for Ersson, as fellow second-year player Wyatt Johnston opened the scoring for the Stars 4:02 into the game. After going goalless through the first three games of the season, Johnston burst down the left wing and sent a snap shot over Ersson's shoulder.
Nearly four minutes later, Dallas led 2-0.
Tyler Seguin got his first goal of the season at 7:52 to make it 2-0, as Travis Sanheim failed to clear the puck, allowing Dallas to set up offensively before Seguin finished from the top of the crease.
The Flyers chipped away at the early deficit 10:12 into the frame, as Joel Farabee scored his third goal of the season, forcing in a loose puck after sustained offensive pressure to make it 2-1. Konecny tied the score at 2-2 with a short-handed breakaway goal, his team-leading fourth of the season.
The Stars restored their lead after Roope Hintz scored off Jason Robertson's drop pass, but the Flyers never looked out of the game.
Jamie Benn scored 10:36 into the third period to extend the lead to 4-2, only for Konecny and Walker to score late short-handed goals before Pavelski ended the game in overtime.
Scott Wedgewood made 36 saves for Dallas.
Two of Dallas' wins this season have come after regulation. The Stars have had one-goal outcomes in each of their four games this season.
