Ducks 2, Canucks 1 (OT): Defenseman Cam Fowler scored 2:42 into overtime as host Anaheim improved to 8-0-1 in the past nine meetings with Vancouver.
After Andrew Cogliano hit the post late in the third period for the second time in the contest, the Ducks were able to compose themselves and seal the deal in overtime. Devante Smith-Pelly's touch pass banked off Ryan Miller and right to a trailing Fowler, who sent the puck between the veteran netminder's pads for his third career overtime tally.
Defenseman Francois Beauchemin scored his first goal of the season and Frederik Andersen finished with 13 saves to improve to 10-1-1 in December for Anaheim, which moved 11 points ahead of second-place Los Angeles, San Jose and the Canucks in the Pacific Division. Captain Ryan Getzlaf notched two assists to both extend his point streak to eight games and secure a point in 10 straight contests against Vancouver.
Blue-liner Yannick Weber scored his second goal in three games and Miller turned aside 29 shots for the Canucks, who have dropped six of their last eight. Jannik Hansen had an assist in his first contest since collapsing on the bench versus Calgary on Dec. 20.
Hansen skated around the net before wiring a diagonal feed from near the left the circle to the right point for Weber, whose wrist shot beat a screened Andersen as Vancouver opened the scoring 2:04 into the second period. The slim advantage held up until Getzlaf won an offensive zone faceoff and Beauchemin used a screen from Smith-Pelly to score from the point at 6:52 into the third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Getzlaf has collected four goals and nine assists on his eight-game point streak. ... Anaheim C Ryan Kesler won 10-of-15 faceoffs against his former team while Vancouver C Nick Bonino split his 18 draws and D Luca Sbisa blocked four shots versus their former club. ... Ducks LW Max Friberg logged 8:47 of ice time in his NHL debut after being recalled from Norfolk of the American Hockey League prior to the game.
