Scott Hartnell scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second period, and Brian Boucher made 23 saves as the visiting Philadelphia Flyers earned a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
James van Riemsdyk and Dan Carcillo also scored for the Flyers, who had a 3-0 lead heading into the third period before Detroit woke up. It was Philadelphia’s first win in 19 games at Joe Louis Arena.
After a scoreless first period, van Riemsdyk scored his ninth of the season 51 seconds into the second session from Andreas Nodl and Mike Richards.
Carcillo made it 2-0 on a deflection from in front of the net less than five minutes later before Hartnell scored his 10th of the year when he lifted a shot over Jimmy Howard at the 14:24 mark. Howard was lifted in favor of Chris Osgood at the second intermission.
Valtteri Filppula put Detroit on the board 51 seconds into the third. Henrik Zetterberg cut the lead to a single goal when he scored his 14th on a power play by backhanding a rebound into the top of the net.
Howard made 24 saves, while Osgood stopped all four shots he faced in the third.
