Michael Jacobson had 21 points and 13 rebounds as Iowa State rolled to an 81-52 win over short-handed Texas on Saturday afternoon in Ames, Iowa.
Iowa State led by as many as 17 points in the first half and by 11 at the half before breaking open the game early in the second half, pushing its lead to 51-28 on a Jacobson jumper with 14:03 to play. Texas had only a jumper by Will Baker as offense during that six-minute stretch, when it was outscored 14-2.
A 7-0 Cyclones run stoked the lead to 70-41 with 5:29 to play, and Iowa State cruised to the finish line.
Prentiss Nixon and Solomon Young scored 17 points each for the Cyclones (11-14, 4-8 Big 12), who have won two of their past three games but just three of their past 10. Rasir Bolton added 10 points for Iowa State, which outshot Texas 57.7 percent to 29.3 percent and had a 40-27 edge on the glass.
Sophomore guard Courtney Ramey had a career-high 21 points for the Longhorns (14-11, 4-8). No other Texas player had more than Andrew Jones' eight points.
It was the Cyclones' day from the start. Iowa State shot 56.5 percent in the first half on the way to a 37-26 lead. Young scored 14 points over the first 20 minutes, with Jacobson adding 10.
Ramey led the Longhorns with 12 points in the first half and had four of the Longhorns' nine made baskets in the half.
Both teams played without some of their key players, as the Longhorns were without forward Jericho Sims (back) and sharpshooting guard Jase Febres (knee), while point guard Matt Coleman III (foot) missed most of the second half. The Cyclones were missing Tyrese Haliburton, who is out for the year with a broken wrist.
