No. 23 New Mexico 77, Indiana State 68 (OT): Kendall Williams scored 24 points as the Lobos jumped out early in the overtime period and held off the host Sycamores.
Hugh Greenwood stepped up in overtime and finished with 14 points and Chad Adams added 12 for New Mexico (8-0), which outscored Indiana State 13-4 in the extra period.
Jake Odum scored four of his 25 points in the last 18 seconds of regulation and added seven rebounds while Manny Arop collected 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Sycamores (4-2), who hit just 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from 3-point range.
The Lobos took control with a 20-4 run in the first half, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Williams. Greenwood’s jumper in the final seconds pushed the lead to 33-19 at the half and it grew as large as 40-21 when Adams hit a 3-pointer 1:27 into the second period.
The Sycamores whittled the lead all the way down to 54-52 on Dawon Cummings’ three-point play with 6:20 left and were still within 64-62 after Odum buried a jumper with 18 seconds left. Williams had a chance to seal it at the line but missed two free throws, and Odum got free for a layup with three seconds left to force overtime.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New Mexico overcame a 38.6 percent shooting performance from the field by going 28-of-34 from the free-throw line. … The Lobos improved to 11-9 all-time against current teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. … Indiana State C Justin Gant and New Mexico G Demetrius Walker each fouled out.
