St. Peter's 56, Rutgers 52: Yvon Raymond drilled a 3-pointer to snap a tie with just over one minute to play as the visiting Peacocks overcame a seven-point deficit midway through the second half to stun their Garden State rival in the season opener for both squads.
Delaware State transfer Desi Washington scored a game-high 18 points and Markese Tucker added 11 off the bench for St. Peter's, which was picked to finish last in the 10-team Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this season.
The Peacocks began to chip away after Myles Mack gave the Scarlet Knights their largest lead of the night at 42-35 with a 3-pointer with 10:25 remaining.
St. Peter's, which posted a 5-26 mark last season, claimed the lead at 51-49 as Blaise Ffrench found Raymond, who connected on his team's fifth 3-pointer with 1:09 left.
Kansas State transfer Wally Judge had a team-high 11 points before fouling out for Rutgers, which committed 17 turnovers and finished 2-of-13 from 3-point range.
GAME NOTEBOOK: St. Peter's Darius Conley, who entered the game questionable with an ankle injury, had 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting. ...
