SYRACUSE 64, GEORGETOWN 61: Kris Joseph scored a career-high 29 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer, and created a game-clinching steal in overtime as the No. 2 Orange extended their home winning streak to 19.

Syracuse (24-1, 11-1 Big East) was in danger of losing its second straight home game to Georgetown (18-5, 8-4), which used its conference-best scoring defense to hold the Orange scoreless for the final 4:37 of regulation.

Fab Melo, though, swatted a potential game-winning open look from the Hoyas in the waning seconds of regulation to allow Joseph the chance to hit his sixth 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in overtime.

Georgetown limited Syracuse to 34.9 percent shooting but could not take advantage on the other end. Leading scorer Jason Clark had trouble finding gaps in the zone, while center Henry Sims went 1 for 12 from the field.

The Orange had their own struggles as Dion Waiters went 3 for 12 and Scoop Jardine 1 for 7.

Syracuse also struggled on the backboards as the Hoyas became the third opponent in five games to win the battle of the boards by double figures, coming down with 18 more rebounds.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim won his 880th game, moving him into No. 3 on the all-time wins list ahead of Dean Smith. ... Georgetown was the last opponent to win at the Carrier Dome.
