Tennessee's struggles continue.
The Volunteers (9-3) barely held off University of Tennessee-Martin 68-62 on Wednesday at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn. It was a game they were expected to win by a much wider margin.
The Skyhawks (4-10) were coming off a 60-point loss, 100-40, to Ohio State earlier in the week. Tennessee, which improves to 4-0 against the Skyhawks, actually trailed at halftime, 36-32, and never led by more than the six in the second half.
Tennessee's star freshman forward Tobias Harris didn’t return from Christmas break until Tuesday at 11:30 p.m. because of heavy snowfall in the northeast, but came off the bench to score 13 points and grab 10 rebounds to help the Vols eek out their second straight win.
Steven Pearl, son of Vols coach Bruce Pearl, started in Harris’ position. He provided zero points over 12 minutes. That matched fellow starter Brian Williams in points.
