PHILADELPHIA -- The New Orleans Pelicans had plenty in reserve Tuesday night. So too did forward Anthony Davis.
Davis collected 31 points and 16 rebounds, and the Pelicans' bench provided 53 points, lifting New Orleans to a 108-93 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Terrence Jones added 17 points and 10 boards in a reserve role for the Pelicans, who salvaged the finale of a three-game road trip with just their third victory in the last 11 games.
Two other reserves, E'Twaun Moore and Tim Frazier, had 15 and 10 points, respectively, while Jrue Holiday scored 12.
"They've been very vital to us," Davis said of the Pelicans' bench. "We need all these guys to come in and play well for us."
When the Sixers sliced an 18-point deficit to 95-88 with 5:27 left, it was Davis who came to the fore. The three-time All-Star provided seven points in a decisive 10-0 run. He also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a shot in that stretch.
"If guys are open, then we've got to find open guys," he said, "but down the stretch I definitely want the ball in my hands to make the play for myself or my teammates. As a leader that's what you have to do."
Ersan Ilyasova had 14 points and Gerald Henderson finished with 13 for the Sixers, who lost for the ninth time in their last 10 home games, and the 11th time in 14 games overall.
Joel Embiid, Philadelphia's leading scorer and rebounder, managed 11 points, all in the first half, in 25 foul-plagued minutes. Jahlil Okafor and Robert Covington each contributed 11.
Davis, 12-for-30 from the floor, missed seven of his eight attempts in the first quarter when the Pelicans shot 27.3 percent to fall behind 23-15.
Frazier and Moore then notched 10 points each and Jones had five in the second quarter as the Pelicans outscored the Sixers 42-21, New Orleans' highest-scoring quarter of the season.
Davis also re-entered the game after a rest to pack 11 points into the final 2:55 of the period, giving New Orleans a 57-44 halftime lead.
"You're not going to make every shot," he said. "You have to adjust. My jump shot wasn't on tonight, so I started going to the rim, trying to get stuff around the rim."
New Orleans went 15-for-27 from the floor in the period (55.6 percent) and made 4 of 6 3-pointers.
"That's a lot of points for one period," Okafor said. "That really got them going for the rest of the game."
Coach Brett Brown did not disagree.
"That's the game," he said. "The other periods are acceptable."
With Embiid in foul trouble and Okafor struggling on defense, Brown even turned to Nerlens Noel in the third quarter, after saying Sunday that Noel would no longer be part of the frontcourt rotation. Noel entered the game to a loud ovation with 6:49 left in the period.
He played the rest of the quarter and had four points and three rebounds. He did not appear again.
"I just really want to thank the fans for how they supported me," he said. "That really meant a lot to me. I got the chills."
Davis had 14 points and Moore added 13 in the first half for New Orleans. Embiid's 11 points led the Sixers.
NOTES: G Buddy Hield scored 10 for New Orleans. ... F Solomon Hill started for the Pelicans after missing the two previous games to be with his wife for the birth of a daughter. He had two points and three rebounds in 33 minutes. ... G/F Nik Stauskas returned for Philadelphia after missing Sunday's victory over Brooklyn with a sore left knee. He collected eight points in 23 minutes. ... New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said Sixers C Joel Embiid is "as skilled a big man as there is in the league" before the game. "I don't know if there's any better," Gentry added. "When you put the whole package together as far as shooting the 3-point shot, footwork, he reminds me a little of (retired San Antonio star) Tim Duncan, but really the shooting range is better."
