Scott Rolen and Ramon Hernandez each drove in three runs and the Cincinnati Reds busted out for a 12-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday.
Cincinnati tied a season-high with 19 hits and notched its highest run output in three weeks without the benefit of a home run.
The top of the order did most of the damage, as the Reds 1-4 hitters went an astounding 15-for-22 with seven RBIs. Brandon Phillips went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Rolen, who returned from a nine-game absence on Monday, finished 4-for-4. His sacrifice fly in the seventh capped the scoring.
Logan Ondrusek (2-0) threw 2 1/3 innings in relief of an ineffective Edinson Volquez to earn the win.
Rickie Weeks hit his seventh homer in his last 10 games for Milwaukee, which had its five-game winning streak snapped.
Brewers’ starter Yovani Gallardo (9-5) was more successful with his bat than his arm. The right-hander was rocked for six runs – five earned – and 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings. Gallardo’s two-run homer in the second pulled the Brewers to within 5-3, but that was as close as they got.
