Patrick Corbin, who signed a six-year, $140 million contract in December, pitched a four-hitter, and Yan Gomes hit a three-run double to lead the host Washington Nationals to a 5-0 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon.

In his seventh year in the majors, this was just Corbin's second career shutout and fifth complete game.

Corbin (5-2), who threw 116 pitches, allowed one walk and struck out five. He also induced three double plays and got first-pitch strikes on 17 of the 29 batters he faced. He got 21 called strikes and eight swinging.

His performance allowed rest for an overtaxed Nationals bullpen that allowed five runs in five innings in Friday's 12-10 win over Miami.

Gomes, a native of Brazil who played his high school and college baseball in Miami, burned his hometown team with his opposite-field double that bounced just inside the first-base line. The ball was hit off the end of his bat.

Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara (2-5) had pitched 12 consecutive scoreless innings before Washington struck for five runs in the fourth frame that featured Gomes' double.

Alcantara lasted five innings, allowing five runs (four earned), six hits and two walks.

The game was scoreless until that fourth inning, which started with Adam Eaton's single. Anthony Rendon followed with another single, but Eaton was thrown out at third. Juan Soto finally got the Nationals on the board with an RBI single.

Following a Matt Adams walk, he and Soto advanced when Alcantara bounced a wild pitch. Brian Dozier then hit a grounder to third baseman Brian Anderson, who was charged with an error when his throw home to try to nail Soto was high.

Victor Robles, who was trying to bunt, was then grazed on his left cheek by a 99-mph Alcantara fastball. Robles survived the scary incident and stayed in the game, and that was followed by Gomes' bases-loaded double.

That was the only scoring in the game, and Corbin did the rest.
