Cubs 5, Braves 1: Paul Maholm allowed one run over six innings and Chicago hit three solo home runs to win the third game of a four-game set at Turner Field.
Jeff Baker, Bryan LaHair and Anthony Rizzo all blasted homers as the Cubs won for the second time in this series and sixth time in eight games. LaHair and Rizzo led a balanced Chicago offense with two hits apiece.
Maholm (6-6) scattered eight hits while walking one and striking out five.
LaHair’s 14th homer of the season in the fourth inning off Atlanta starter Randall Delgado (4-9) snapped a 1-1 tie. Baker hit his second shot in the seventh and Rizzo connected for his third blast a frame later.
Starlin Castro scored on the back end of an attempted double steal in the first to give the Cubs a 1-0 advantage. The Braves tied the game in the third as Michael Bourn raced home on Martin Prado’s infield single.
Bourn finished 3-for-4 for the Braves, who slipped six games behind Washington in the National League East. Chipper Jones, who went 5-for-5 in Tuesday’s victory, collected two hits to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
Delgado pitched well in a losing effort, allowing three runs and seven hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out five.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Prado finished 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. … Chicago LF Alfonso Soriano threw out Jones at home plate to end the sixth. ... Bourn fell a home run short of hitting for the cycle. ... The Cubs won for just the 12th time on the road this season.
