Bears 27, Jets 19: Ryan Mundy picked off Geno Smith's first pass and returned it 45 yards for a score and tight end Martellus Bennett caught a pair of touchdown passes as Chicago held on for the road win.
Jay Cutler threw a pair of touchdown passes and the injury-riddled Bears (2-1) stopped the Jets' potential game-tying drive in the final minute deep in Chicago territory. Brandon Marshall, who scored three touchdowns last week, was held to just one catch while plagued with an ailing ankle but Alshon Jeffrey picked up the slack by hauling in eight passes for 105 yards as Cutler connected on 23-of-38 passes for 225 yards.
Smith put up solid numbers, completing 26-of-43 for 316 yards but never rebounded from his shaky start and tossed a pair of costly interceptions. He threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Kerley to cap the scoring in the first half as the Jets trailed 17-13, but New York squandered several chances in the red zone leading to four field goals by Nick Folk.
Bennett's second touchdown gave Chicago a 24-13 lead but the Jets' defense forced three straight punts and trimmed the deficit to 24-19 on Folk's final field goal with 9:52 to play. Chicago responded with an 11-play drive covering 46 yards, capped by a 45-yard field goal by Robbie Gould to complete the scoring.
New York took over at the 20-yard line with 3:09 to play on its final drive and drove to the Chicago 9, highlighted by a 51-yard catch-and-run by Greg Salas. But, on fourth down in the final minute, Smith's pass sailed too far and Kerley made the grab out of the back of the end zone.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jets WR Eric Decker, who was questionable with a hamstring injury, played very little and caught just one pass. ...Chicago CB Kyle Fuller picked off Smith in the end zone in the third quarter, his third interception in two weeks. ... Cutler is 7-1 on Monday night games while with the Bears.
