Sophomore forward Tres Tinkle scored 20 points and recorded a career-high 15 rebounds as Oregon State shook off a slow start to defeat Prairie View A&M 78-58 on Friday in Corvallis, Ore.

Sophomore forward Drew Eubanks recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and a career-high seven blocks for the Beavers (1-0), who are coming off back-to-back winning seasons and their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 26 years. Guard Jaquori McLaughlin had 12 points and six assists.

Tinkle, who missed the final five games last season with a broken foot, added two steals and was 10-for-12 from the free-throw line. Oregon State was 3-for-16 from 3-point range and 16 for 30 from inside the arc.

Guard Daquan Cook registered 14 points and four steals while guard James Westbrook scored 13 points for the Panthers (0-1). Prairie View shot 32.8 from the field and was 5 of 21 from 3-point range.

The Beavers led 36-22 at the break after shooting 40 percent from the field while holding the Panthers to 29.6 percent. Prairie View A&M scored the first five points before Oregon State took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Kendal Manuel before seven minutes elapsed.

The teams went more than three minutes without scoring and more than four without making a field goal as they were a combined 0-for-9 from the field during that span after Manuel's make. Tinkle recorded eight points and five rebounds in the first half.

The Panthers trailed 45-33 after guard Shaquille Preston's 3-point play with 13:27 remaining. Eubanks ignited a 9-2 spurt with a pair of free throws and a dunk and the Beavers increased their lead to 68-49 on Tinkle's bucket with 4:56 left.
