Virginia 74, Wofford 39: Freshman Mike Tobey came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points as the Cavaliers used a late first-half surge to rout the visiting Terriers.
Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell each chipped in 15 points for Virginia (10-3), which shot a season-high 63.8 percent.
Spencer Collins had 17 points and was the only player to score more than five points for Wofford (6-7).
With the scored tied at 10, the Cavaliers began to pull away as Collins accounted for all seven points for the Terriers over the final 12:48 of the first half. After Collins hit a 3-pointer with 6:28 left – Wofford’s last basket in the opening 20 minutes – Virginia scored 14 of the next 16 points to take a 31-17 lead into the break.
The Cavaliers put it all together in the second half, holding the Terriers to two field goals over the first 11:02 while connecting on 17 of their final 24 field goal attempts. Virginia led by as many as 42 points late in the game.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia remained undefeated against opponents not from the Colonial Athletic Conference. The team is 0-3 against CAA competition this season (George Mason, Delaware and Old Dominion). … Wofford, which was coming off a road win at Xavier, suffered its largest margin of defeat since a 69-33 loss at Wisconsin early last season. … The Cavaliers held their third opponent under 40 points this month, with the others coming in home wins over Tennessee (46-38) on Dec. 5 and Mississippi Valley State (67-39) on Dec.8.
