Mason Madsen made seven 3-pointers and scored a career-high 25 points to help Boston College defeat visiting Miami 85-77 Saturday in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Madsen was 7 of 12 from 3-point territory. He punctuated a 9-0 run by making a 3-pointer that gave the Eagles (15-10, 6-8 ACC) a 77-73 lead with 2:13 to play. The Hurricanes (15-11, 6-9) failed to get closer than three points after that.
Quinten Post scored 23 points for BC, which made 15 of its 30 3-point attempts. BC received 15 points from Claudell Harris Jr., and 11 from Jaeden Zackery. The Eagles finished the game on a 17-4 run.
Norchad Omier led Miami with 20 points. Matthew Cleveland also added 20 for the Hurricanes, who have lost four in a row. Miami made 13 of its 26 3-point attempts.
The Hurricanes trailed 59-56 with 13:35 remaining but went on an 8-0 run to go in front 64-59 with 10:51 to play.
Miami played without junior guard Nijel Pack, who missed the game because of a knee injury. Pack is averaging 13.7 points and a team-high 3.6 assists per game.
BC took its first double-digit lead when a Zackery jumper put the Eagles up 18-7 with 1:51 remaining in the first half. Zackery's basket capped a 7-0 run.
Miami battled back and grabbed its first lead when a Cleveland jump shot put the Hurricanes up 31-30 with 6:04 left in the half. Miami had a 41-39 advantage after an Omier basket with 2:28 left in the half, but it was 41-41 at halftime. Post led all scorers in the half with 16 points.
Each team shot at least 50 percent from 3-point territory in the opening 20 minutes. Miami was 8 of 16 from behind the arc, and BC was 9 of 17.
