Nick Honor banked in a 3-point shot with one second remaining as Clemson knocked off Georgia Tech 74-72 in an Atlantic Coast Conference game Friday night.
Clemson (13-5, 7-5 in ACC) trailed 72-69 with 12 seconds remaining, but Jonathan Baehre scored on a dunk to pull the Tigers within a single point and Georgia Tech's Jose Alvarado -- an 88-percent free throw shooter -- missed a pair of free throws with 8.4 seconds left to set up Honor for the game-winning shot.
The victory in front of 1,806 fans at Clemson's Littlejohn Coliseum upped the Tigers' home record to 9-1 this season.
Honor finished with 12 points and played sticky defense on Alvarado, the Yellow Jackets' leading scorer, throughout the game. Alvarado scored eight points, but made just 3 of 11 shots from the floor.
Senior forward Aamir Simms led Clemson with 25 points, matching his career high, on 9 of 16 shooting.
The Yellow Jackets (9-8, 5-6) were led by Michael Devoe, who scored 23 points. Devoe scored 10 points in the first half as Georgia Tech led by as many as nine points, 30-21, with two minutes left in the period.
But the Tigers scored the final five points of the half to cut their deficit to 30-26 at halftime.
Clemson's first lead of the night came when Hunter Tyson made two free throws following a technical foul on Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner after Pastner slammed his face shield into the scorer's table after a backcourt violation by his team.
The game was tight from there, and the teams were tied five times the remainder of the game, setting up the wild finish.
Devoe, who scored 22 points in Georgia Tech's 18-point victory against Clemson on Jan. 20, made 7 of 12 shots from the floor. Moses Wright added 15 points on 6 of 7 shooting while Jordan Usher and Bubba Parham each added 12 points for the Yellow Jackets, who are in the midst of playing four games in one week.
Georgia Tech, which was playing for its third consecutive victory against Clemson over the last two seasons, fell to 7-3 this season when leading at the half. The Yellow Jackets also slipped to 1-5 away from home this season.
