Justin Upton and Phil Gosselin each had two hits and two RBIs to help the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays in the opener of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in Anaheim, Calif.

Angels right-hander Chris Rodriguez allowed one run and six hits in four innings.

Marcus Semien had three hits for the Blue Jays, who were the home team because it was a makeup game from an April 11 rainout in Dunedin, Fla., where Toronto hosted games to start the season due to Canadian COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Blue Jays left-hander Steven Matz (9-7) allowed four runs (two earned) and six hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked three.

The Angels scored two runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings after two were out.

Gosselin singled and Jose Iglesias doubled to put runners on second and third in the third inning. Upton followed with a ground ball through the left side to score both runners for a 2-0 lead.

Blue Jays center fielder George Springer walked to start the bottom of the third and came home on a one-out double to deep center by Semien to make it 2-1.

Toronto loaded the bases with one out in the fourth for Springer, but the three-time American League All-Star hit into a 5-4-3 double play to end the threat.

Iglesias walked and Upton singled to put runners on the corners in the fifth. Jo Adell lifted a high pop fly above first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but he lost the ball in the sun and it fell just inside the foul line, allowing both runners to score for a 4-1 lead.

Austin Warren replaced Rodriguez to start the bottom of the fifth and was stung after getting two outs.

Teoscar Hernandez had an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2, and Corey Dickerson tripled off the glove of Upton in left to drive in Hernandez and make it 4-3.

The Angels got the runs back in the sixth on a two-out, two-run single by Gosselin to make it 6-3.

Junior Guerra (3-2) got Springer to hit into another inning-ending double play in the sixth, and Raisel Iglesias pitched the seventh for his 25th save.
