Matt Luff and Jeff Carter scored goals and Tyler Toffoli had two assists as the visiting Los Angeles Kings used the Freeway Faceoff rivalry to end an 11-game road losing streak with a 2-1 victory Thursday over the Anaheim Ducks.
Goalie Jonathan Quick made 36 saves, holding a Kings opponent without a goal in the first two periods for the second consecutive game. Quick missed a shutout by 31 seconds Tuesday when the New York Rangers scored late in that game.
Derek Grant scored a goal and goalie John Gibson made 25 saves as the Ducks lost for the third time in their last four games and the fifth time in their last seven contests (2-4-1).
The rivals had a game decided by one goal for the 10th time in the last 14 meetings. The Kings' victory came at the start of a six-game road trip.
The last-place Kings had not won a road game since Oct. 22 at Winnipeg. They played once at Anaheim during the road drought, falling 4-2 on Dec. 2 with Jack Campbell in goal. The 11-game road losing streak tied a franchise record.
Luff gave the Kings a 1-0 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the first period when he cleaned up a loose puck in front of the Ducks' goal after a long shot from the point by Matt Roy. It was Luff's first goal of the season in his ninth game.
Carter gave the Kings a 2-0 lead at 4:27 of the second period when he scored six seconds into a two-man advantage.
After Ducks penalties to Grant (tripping) and Adam Henrique (holding), the Kings won the faceoff in the Anaheim zone and saw Carter score his ninth of the season off a pass from Drew Doughty.
The Ducks pulled to within a goal at 2-1 when Grant scored from in front of the Kings goal at 5:12 of the third period off a pass from Jakob Silfverberg. It was his ninth of the season and third in two games against the Kings.
