Kings 85, Suns 83: DeMarcus Cousins hit the game-winning jumper as time expired and had 28 points and 12 rebounds as host Sacramento edged Phoenix.
Cousins shot a 19-footer that bounced off the rim four times before slithering through the net to give the Kings only their second victory in 13 games. Ben McLemore added 13 points and Ramon Sessions had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Sacramento, which played without small forward Rudy Gay (foot).
Suns guard Isaiah Thomas scored 12 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter while trying to single-handedly defeat his former club. Goran Dragic added 13 points and Miles Plumlee had 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for Phoenix, which overcame a 14-point final-quarter deficit to take a brief lead before succumbing for the fourth time in five games.
The Kings led 73-59 entering the final stanza but scored just four points during the first seven minutes as the Suns pulled within 77-72. Thomas scored nine straight Phoenix points in less than two minutes to tie it at 81 with 2:05 left and Markieff Morris hit a go-ahead jumper with 1:21 to play before Cousins hit a tying jumper with 57.9 seconds to play and followed with his decisive mid-range jumper.
Cousins had 14 points and seven rebounds as the Kings took a 48-42 lead into the break. The Suns were within seven after a 3-pointer by P.J. Tucker with 4:31 remaining in the third quarter before Sacramento finished with a 10-3 burst and Ray McCallum’s 3-pointer made it a 14-point margin entering the final stanza.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Suns PG Eric Bledsoe missed the game due to the birth of his child, while C Alex Len (ankle) sat out for the second straight game. … Kings PG Darren Collison (hip flexor) missed his second consecutive contest. … Phoenix struggled to 5-of-28 from 3-point range.
