Dayton 55, Texas A&M 53: Devon Scott tipped in Scoochie Smith’s missed layup with 1 second left as the Flyers edged the Aggies in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in San Juan.

Dyshawn Pierre led the way with 14 points and Kyle Davis added 10 for Dayton (2-0), which will meet Connecticut in Friday’s semifinals. Jordan Sibert chipped in with nine points and Scott had seven for the Flyers, who were outrebounded 47-26 but forced 21 turnovers.

Kourtney Roberson led the way with 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for Texas A&M (1-1), which faces Charleston in Friday's consolation round. Alex Caruso registered 14 of his 17 points in the second half before his half-court heave just missed at the buzzer.

A 3-pointer by Jalen Jones gave Texas A&M a 50-45 lead with 3:39 left before Jalen Robinson made two baskets inside to help pull Dayton within 52-51. Sibert made two free throws to tie it at 53 with 56.6 seconds left and Caruso missed a driving layup to set up the winning possession.

Texas A&M dominated the boards in the first half 29-9 and led by eight before Dayton scored 15 of the last 21 points – seven by Davis – for a 22-21 edge at intermission. Sibert’s three-point play gave the Flyers a 30-24 lead, but Caruso scored the next six and his 3-pointer put the Aggies in front 41-39 midway through the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Flyers held the Aggies to 25 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. … Texas A&M held Dayton to 2-of-18 from 3-point range. … The Flyers have won nine of their last 11 games against SEC schools.
