No. 21 Kansas State 83, Texas 57: Thomas Gipson scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as the host Wildcats ended a two-game losing streak with the Big 12 victory.

Omari Lawrence scored 10 of his career-high 12 points in the first half and Angel Rodriguez contributed 11 points and eight assists for Kansas State (16-4, 5-2 Big 12), which had dropped eight spots in the USA Today coaches’ poll this week after losing to then-No. 2 Kansas and Iowa State.

Sheldon McClellan scored 15 points and Jaylen Bond had a season-high 12 to lead the Longhorns (9-11, 1-6)

Kansas State used an 8-0 run in the first half to go ahead 21-9 and followed with a 9-0 run to stretch the lead to 31-13. Texas managed to cut a 19-point halftime deficit to 13 on a couple occasions but that was as close as the Longhorns could get.

Kansas State finished with 21 assists on 30 field goals and committed six turnovers. Texas had eight assists on 19 field goals and finished with 18 giveaways.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kansas State’s leading scorer this season, senior guard Rodney McGruder, picked up two fouls in the first two minutes and didn’t make his first field goal until 2½ minutes had expired in the second half. He finished with seven points, ending a streak of 10 straight games in double figures. … Kansas State guard Will Spradling suffered a broken nose in the first half but started the second and finished with five points. … Texas entered the game 279th in the nation in field-goal percentage at 40.9. The Longhorns shot 26.1 percent in the first half before finishing at 41.3.
