Texas A&M 62, Oklahoma 53: Khris Middleton scored 15 points, including a dagger 3-pointer in the final two minutes to help the Aggies push past the Sooners in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.
Texas A&M (14-17), the No. 9 seed, moves on to face top-seeded Kansas on Thursday afternoon.
The eighth-seeded Sooners (15-16) will wait and see if they receive an invitation to the NIT, CBI or the collegeinsider.com tournament.
With Texas A&M clinging to a 47-45 lead with less than five minutes remaining, Dash Harris drained a 3-pointer from the wing to go up 50-45. On an ensuing possession, Harris found Middleton wide open in the corner for another 3-pointer that made it 55-47 with 1:49 left.
The Aggies used a balanced attack, as David Loubeau added 15 points, Elston Turner had 14 and Ray Turner scored 12 off the bench.
Texas A&M closed the first half on an 11-5 run to take a 27-22 halftime lead, but Oklahoma fought back to tie the game at 39 on Sam Grooms’ driving layup with 9:14 to go.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Romero Osby had 17 points, including 9 for 12 from the free throw line, to lead Oklahoma. … Texas A&M is the only Big 12 team to never appear in the championship game of this tournament. … The Aggies lost by 10 and eight points in two previous meetings with Kansas.
