Kevin Dillard had 17 points, 10 assists and six steals to spark Dayton to an 86-70 win over previously unbeaten Minnesota in the championship game of the Old Spice Classic in Orlando.
It was another step toward erasing the disappointment of last year’s less-than-satisfying season in which he Flyers posted a losing record in the Atlantic 10 conference and failed to qualify for the NCAA playoffs for a second straight year.
Dayton (5-1) had four other players in double figures, led by Chris Johnson with 18 and Josh Benson with 16. It was the Flyers’ fourth consecutive victory.
Minnesota (6-1) got 14 points from Austin Hollins, one of three players in double figures.
Dayton surged to a 37-28 halftime lead and limited Minnesota to only 22 shots in the first half.
