Markel Brown scored a career-high 30 points, guiding Oklahoma State to an 80-63 victory at Texas Tech on Tuesday night.
Brown, a high-flying sophomore who had never reached 20 points in his career, shot 13 of 13 from the free-throw line and now has 49 points in his last two games.
Freshman Le’Bryan Nash added 16 points for the Cowboys (11-11, 4-5 Big 12), who relentlessly attacked the basket against the overmatched Red Raiders (7-14, 0-9 Big 12). The aggressive play led to a ton of fouls, and Oklahoma State finished 33 of 35 from the free-throw line.
Brown had 16 points before halftime, including a couple highlight-reel dunks, one of which came on an off-the-backboard alley-oop from Nash on a fast break.
Nash and Brown combined to make 22 of 22 free throws.
Jaye Crockett had 16 points and 14 rebounds for Texas Tech, which shot 57 percent in the first half but still trailed 45-35 at the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Brown nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put the Cowboys on top 55-42.
Jordan Tolbert, Texas Tech’s leading scorer and one of the top freshmen in the Big 12, was benched at the beginning of the game for unknown reasons. He sat on the bench for the first 11 minutes, and then picked up two fouls within the first minute he played.
Tolbert saw limited action and finished with only three points on one field goal attempt.
