Tyrus McGee hit six 3-pointers and scored 20 points off the bench as Iowa State ran away from host Texas Tech 76-52 on Saturday.
The Cyclones (14-5, 4-2 Big 12) moved into a tie with No. 3 Baylor for third place in the Big 12 after the Bears’ loss to Missouri earlier in the day.
Iowa State, picked by the coaches to finish eighth in the league, already eclipsed its conference win total from last season, when the Cyclones finished 3-13 and in last place in the Big 12.
This was Iowa State’s first win in Lubbock since 2000.
Robert Lewandowski scored 20 points to lead Texas Tech (7-11, 0-6 Big 12), which dropped its sixth consecutive game. No other starter finished with more than six points.
McGee hit four 3-pointers off the bench in the first half to help give Iowa State a 35-23 lead at the break.
Chris Allen added 14 points and Melvin Ejim had 13 for the Cyclones, who shot 48.4 percent from the field.
Iowa State went on a 12-5 run midway through the second half and opened up a 61-40 lead on Allen’s 3-pointer with 9:17 remaining.
