Jeffery Taylor scored 19 points and Lance Goldbourne had a game-high 16 rebounds and 13 points as Vanderbilt stormed out to a huge early lead and coasted to a surprising 74-57 victory at No. 13 Marquette on Thursday.
The Commodores (9-4) took full advantage of a frigid start by the home team, building an insurmountable 35-8 lead over the first 12 minutes of play.
Marquette (11-2) made only two of its first 21 field-goal attempts and shot 21 percent (7-for-33) in the first half.
Though they improved to 46 percent shooting after the break, Marquette never recovered from the early blitz. Vanderbilt's lead was never less than 16 points in the second half.
John Jenkins added 14 points for the Commodores. Jae Crowder led the Golden Eagles with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Vanderbilt gave Marquette an opportunity to come back, committing 17 turnovers, but the Golden Eagles only managed 13 points off of those miscues.
