Freshman Bradley Beal scored 21 points and No. 12 Florida extended its winning streak to five, using a 15-2 second-half run to down in-state rival Florida State 82-64 in Gainesville, Fla.
The Gators (10-2) led 38-36 in the early moments of the second half, then took control against the Seminoles (8-4). Beal started the run with a three-point play at the 16:12 mark. Patric Young scored four points during the surge and made a huge block on Bernard James.
A Beal 3-pointer capped the run to give the Gators a 53-38 lead with 11:50 left.
It was the second big run of the night for the Gators. After Florida State scored the first basket of the game, the Gators scored the next 14 points to take a 14-2 lead, holding the Seminoles scoreless for 7:50 as the Seminoles started the game 1-for-13 from the field.
Young scored 15 points and Kenny Boynton added 14 points for Florida, who played without guard Mike Rosario (strained back). Erik Murphy scored 12 points and Erving Walker added 11 points and seven assists.
Luke Loucks led Florida State with 15 points.
The Gators play next Thursday at Rutgers. Florida State plays host to Princeton on Dec. 30.
