Freshman Todd Mayo scored 20 points in his first career start as No. 11 Marquette coasted to a 93-72 home win over Northern Colorado.
Mayo, starting in place of suspended scoring leader Darius Johnson-Odom, scored eight points over a span of 96 seconds to help the Golden Eagles (10-0) grab an early 20-8 lead. Northern Colorado used a 15-3 run to cut a 21-point gap to nine, 56-47, with 13:11 left in the second half, but the Bears (3-7) could get no closer despite shooting 50 percent (8-for-16) from 3-point range.
Jae Crowder added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Marquette, which made a living at the foul line. The Golden Eagles converted 30 of 36 free throws.
