C.J. Wilcox scored 19 points and Washington jumped ahead early en route to a 77-71 victory over visiting Florida Atlantic in the World Vision Classic.
Abdul Gaddy had 15 points and six assists, Terrence Ross scored 14 points and Aziz N’Diaye added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Washington (2-0).
Greg Gantt had 14 points and Shavar Richardson scored 13 for Florida Atlantic (0-2), which didn’t make its first field goal until more than six minutes into the game.
The Owls battled back from a 14-point second-half deficit to pull within 74-70 on Kore White’s 3-pointer with 1:22 left. But Gaddy hit two free throws with 38 seconds left to help Washington hold on.
The Huskies led 51-37 after Wilcox hit two free throws with 12:57 remaining, but the Owls got back into the game with a 13-5 run to cut Washington’s lead to 56-50 on a 3-pointer by Richardson with 10:22 to play.
Florida Atlantic scored the game’s first point and never led again. Washington rolled off the next 11 points as the Owls missed their first seven shots from the field.
