Tai Wesley had 19 points and nine rebounds, and Brockeith Pane also scored 19 points as No. 17 Utah State defeated Boise State 77-69 on Saturday in the Western Athletic Conference tournament final in Las Vegas.
Nate Bendall added 16 points as the top-seeded Aggies (30-3) won the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
La’Shard Anderson scored 18 points for second-seeded Boise State (20-12), which saw its eight-game winning streak end.
Utah State led 53-42 after Brady Jardine’s layup with 13:37 remaining, but the Aggies made only one field goal over the next eight-plus minutes as Boise State went on a 12-3 run to cut its deficit to 56-54.
Wesley scored Utah State’s next seven points as the Aggies went on an 11-4 run to take a nine-point lead.
Brian Green added 12 points for Utah State.
Daequon Montreal and Jeff Elorriaga scored 10 points apiece for Boise State.
The Broncos led 33-30 late in the first half before Pane scored the final five points of the half to jump-start a string of 17 consecutive Utah State points. Wesley’s 3-pointer culminated the run to give the Aggies a 47-33 lead with 17:04 remaining.
