E.J. Singler scored a career-high 22 points and seventh-seeded Oregon held off 10th-seeded Arizona State 76-69 Wednesday in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament in Los Angeles.
Malcolm Armstead had 11 points and Garrett Sim added 10 for the Ducks (15-16), who will face second-seeded UCLA in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Oregon made a season-high 11 3-pointers and shot 58 percent from beyond the arc.
Trent Lockett scored 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting to pace Arizona State (12-19), which had won six straight against Oregon. Jamelle McMillan added 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
The Sun Devils trailed 38-29 after a fast-paced first half which saw both teams shoot at least 50 percent from the field. Oregon opened the second half with a 17-7 run and led by 19 with 12 minutes remaining.
Arizona State made a late charge to pull within 63-55 with 3:26 remaining, but the Sun Devils were unable to come closer than seven points in the final minutes.
Arizona State went to the free throw line only three times, while Oregon was 19 of 27.
Arizona State senior guard Ty Abbott, named Pac-10 Player of the Week after making 12 3-pointers in two games last week, took only one shot and was held scoreless after averaging 12.8 points during the regular season.
Joevan Catron and Johnathan Loyd scored nine points apiece for Oregon, which had lost four straight.
