Ty Abbott scored a team-high 22 points as Arizona State closed a disappointing Pac-10 regular season with an 80-66 victory over visiting Oregon State on Saturday.
Four players scored in double figures for Arizona State (12-18, 4-14 Pac-10), which unleashed an aerial barrage, shooting 17 for 40 from
the 3-point line and putting nine players in the scoring column.
Freshman guard Roberto Nelson scored a career-high 34 points to lead Oregon State (10-19, 5-13 Pac-10), which turned the ball over 20 times and dropped its third straight game.
Arizona State took a 20-19 lead with 7:16 left in the first half on a jumper by Keala King. The bucket began a 21-9 run to close the first
half that allowed the Sun Devils to take control of the game. Arizona State’s quick, guard-heavy lineup wore down the Beavers, who played just six players with three combining for four points.
The teams will open Pac-10 tournament play Wednesday. The 10th-seeded Sun Devils will play the seventh seed at 8:30
p.m., while the Beavers will open the tournament against either Stanford or Oregon at 6 p.m.
