Led by birthday boy Jay-R Strowbridge, Oregon swept the season series over rival Oregon State with an 82-63 Pac-10 victory at the Matthew Knight Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Celebrating his 23rd birthday, Strowbridge, a senior guard, came off the bench to score a game-high 26 points, hitting six 3-pointers and helping the Ducks (14-12, 7-7 Pac-10) improve to .500 in the conference.
After an 0-4 start in the conference, the Ducks have won six of their last eight games and stand tied with Washington State for fourth place.
Senior forward Joevan Catron and sophomore forward E.J. Singler added 13 points apiece for the Ducks. Junior guard Malcolm Armstead came off the bench to score nine points and dish out a career-high 13 assists.
The Ducks took control of the game in the first half with a 25-4 run and held a 42-29 halftime lead.
The Beavers (9-16, 4-10) closed the deficit to 48-40 after a Roberto Nelson free throw with 13:14 remaining in the second half, but the Ducks closed the door with six straight 3-pointers, including four by Strowbridge, during a 18-6 run that gave the Ducks a 66-46 advantage.
Senior guard Lathen Wallace scored a team-high 17 points for the Beavers, who shot a woeful 20-of-54 (.370 percent) from the field, had no starter score in double figures and have yet to win a Pac-10 game on the road.
Up next for the Ducks is a Thursday home game against California, while the Beavers will host Stanford.
