Ramone Moore scored a game-high 24 points and Juan Fernandez had 20 on 9-of-9 shooting as No. 25 Temple took sole possession of second place in the Atlantic 10 with a 73-53 drubbing of visiting Richmond on Thursday.
Scootie Randall added 10 points and five rebounds for the Owls (20-5, 10-2 Atlantic 10), who padded their resume for at least an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament with their seventh straight win.
Kevin Anderson scored 15 points for the Spiders (20-7, 9-3), who needed the victory to improve a strength of schedule that likely won’t impress the selection committee should they fail to win the A-10 tournament.
Moore knocked down three 3-pointers in the first half, including two during a surge over the last eight minutes that gave Temple a 38-29 edge at the break.
The Spiders cut it to 38-33 with baskets on the first two possessions of the second half, but went the next 5:22 without a point as the Owls used a 16-0 run to break the game open. Moore forced a turnover and dunked in transition during the burst and assisted on Fernandez’s 3-pointer to cap the spurt.
