Iowa picked up its first Big Ten win since February with a 91-77 rout of visiting Indiana Sunday.
The Hawkeyes (8-11, 1-6 Big Ten) ended a streak of nine consecutive conference losses with hot shooting and a big effort from Melsahn Basabe. Iowa had not won a conference game since a Feb. 28 win over Indiana last season.
Iowa carved up the Hoosiers’ defense, shooting 57.7 percent from the field. Basabe, a freshman forward, had 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Iowa led by 10 at half, 43-33, and pulled away early in the second. Freshman guard Roy Devyn Marble came off the bench for a season-high 18 points, and Matt Gatens finished with 19 for the Hawkeyes, who snapped a six-game skid overall.
Christian Watford led Indiana with a game-high 30 points.
The Hoosiers (10-10, 1-6 Big Ten) have now lost eight of nine since a 9-2 start and have yet to win on the road.
Iowa is on the road for three of its next four, including a rematch with the Hoosiers in Bloomington, Ind., on Feb. 5.
Indiana begins a stretch of three straight games against ranked opponents with Thursday’s home game against No. 22 Illinois.
