No. 10 Kentucky still has plenty of talent, even after five players off last year's squad were taken in the first round of the NBA draft.
The Wildcats whipped East Tennessee State 88-65 in their season opener Friday night as freshman forward Terrence Jones scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Freshman guards Brandon Knight and Doron Lamb displayed beautiful shooting touch in the first half. Knight buried 4 of 6 from beyond the arc, while Lamb hit 3 of 4. The Wildcats led 50-35 at the break.
Lamb finished with 20 points, Knight with 17.
The Wildcats played without 6-11 freshman center Enes Kanter, who was ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA for receiving about $33,000 above his actual and necessary expenses while playing for a club team in Turkey. Kentucky plans to appeal.
Isiah Brown led the Buccaneers with 25 points.
