Pete Alonso delivered a walk-off single in the ninth inning Friday night for the New York Mets, who mounted a late rally to edge the visiting Colorado Rockies 7-6.

Brandon Nimmo began the winning rally by drawing a four-pitch, one-out walk against Daniel Bard (3-4), who plunked Starling Marte with his next pitch. Bard got ahead of Alonso 0-2 before Alonso singled to left. Nimmo raced home and slid in ahead of the throw as Alonso raised his arms in triumph near second base.

Edwin Diaz (3-1) worked around an unusual one-out double in the ninth -- Ryan McMahon's comebacker glanced off his foot and trickled into shallow right field -- to earn the win.

The Mets have won the first two games of the four-game series. The Rockies have lost nine of 12.

The hit by Alonso capped a wild, back-and-forth game that included two ties and a lead change.

The Mets led 3-0 after five innings thanks to a homer leading off the third by rookie Brett Baty and a two-run triple in the fifth by Marte off Rockies starter Chad Kuhl. But Colorado sent eight batters to the plate and tied the game in the sixth against Chris Bassitt, who gave up a two-run double to Brendan Rodgers and an RBI single to C.J. Cron.

The Mets retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Darin Ruf walked, went to second on a single by Jeff McNeil and scored on Mark Canha's double. McNeil was thrown out trying to score on the hit.

Bassitt exited after allowing a one-out infield single to Charlie Blackmon in the eighth. Mychal Givens gave up a single to Cron and plunked Jose Iglesias before striking out Randal Grichuk. He got ahead of Elias Diaz 1-2 before Diaz ripped a bases-clearing double into the right-center-field gap.

Carlos Estevez was one strike away from a 1-2-3 eighth when the Mets rallied. Ruf reached on an error by McMahon at third base and McNeil followed with a single before Canha delivered a game-tying, two-run double down the third base line.

Bassitt allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out one over 7 1/3 innings. Kuhl allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings.
