Rookie Jake Rudock threw three touchdown passes and Dwayne Washington scored on a 58-yard run during the opening minute as the Detroit Lions cruised to a 31-0 victory over the Buffalo Bills in their preseason finale on Thursday at Ford Field.
Rudock, a sixth-round draft pick from the University of Michigan, completed 14 of 23 passes for 171 yards.
Washington, a seventh-round pick out of the University of Washington, gained 68 yards on seven carries.
Undrafted rookie wide receivers Jace Billingsley and Jay Lee and tight end Adam Feuhne caught the scoring passes from Rudock. Billingsley made seven receptions for 80 yards, while Lee hauled in six passes for 78 yards.
Bills rookie quarterback Cardale Jones was 12-for-26 for 117 yards and an interception.
Both teams held out most of their first-stringers.
Neither starting quarterback on Thursday stood out. Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky completed five of 10 passes for 42 yards. The Bills' EJ Manuel completed just one of five attempts for 10 yards.
The Lions needed only 54 seconds to score, as Washington turned the left corner and scampered down the sideline for the touchdown. Detroit made it 10-0 on its next possession with a 45-yard Matt Prater field goal.
Rudock hit Lee with a 2-yard touchdown pass with 24 seconds left in the half.
Billingsley's 10-yard touchdown catch late in the third quarter gave the Lions a 24-0 lead. Fuehne grabbed a 5-yard scoring strike from Rudock with 7:40 remaining.
