Josh Smith’s layup early broke a tie and sent UCLA on a 25-10 run to close out the first half, and the Bruins went on to rout Utah 76-49 in a Pacific-12 Conference game at the L.A. Memorial Sports Arena Thursday night.
The Bruins put four players in double figures led by Smith with 14 points, snapping a two-game losing streak and climbing back to the .500 mark in the conference. UCLA (11-9, 4-4) also got 13 points from David Wear and Jerime Anderson.
Utah (5-15, 2-6 Pac-12) lived up to its advanced billing as one of the worst offensive teams in the country. The Utes shot 35 percent while UCLA finished the game shooting 60 percent from the field.
UCLA led 36-21 at the half and eventually built a 34-point lead after the break.
Utah has lost five of its last six games and is still winless on the road in the conference. The Utes were led by Chris Hines with 13 points.
