No. 13 Wisconsin used a suffocating defensive effort to roll past visiting Wofford, 69-33, in Chicago Invitational Challenge action Saturday.
Josh Gasser's 3-pointer with 9:21 left in the opening period began a 19-2 Wisconsin run that lasted the rest of the first half and gave the Badgers (3-0) a 32-12 cushion. Wofford (1-2) was held to 5-of-25 shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes, going just 1-for-12 during the decisive run.
The Terriers continued to struggle offensively, finishing the night at 13-for-49 (26.5 percent) shooting and making just four of 19 3-point attempts. Wofford also made only three of nine shots from the foul line, not even getting a free-throw attempt in the first half.
Gasser finished with 16 points in leading the Badgers, while Jared Berggren and Ryan Evans added 13 points apiece. Karl Cochran and Kevin Giltner paced Wofford with 10 points each.
