Trae Golden had 17 points and 11 assists, continuing his hot start to the season and leading host Tennessee to a comfortable 85-62 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday night.

Golden, a point guard who spent much of his freshman season in more of a reserve role, is thriving in his second year, averaging 23 points and 10 assists.

Five players scored in double figures for the Volunteers (2-0), who have looked solid in their first two games under new coach Cuonzo Martin. Skylar McBee had 15 off the bench, Cameron Tatum added 13, and Jeronne Maymon and Josh Richardson chipped in with 11 apiece.

Fred Brown scored 18 points to lead Louisiana-Monroe (0-3), which has lost all three of its games by double digits to open the season. Brown has led the Warhawks in scoring in all three of their losses.

The game was tied 33-33 at halftime and Tennessee trailed 48-46 six minutes into the second half, but Golden found Josh Richardson for an open dunk that capped a quick 13-2 run and made it 59-50 with 10 minutes left.

The lead ballooned to 18 when Golden hit Tatum for a 3-pointer that gave the Volunteers a 75-57 advantage.

Eight of Golden’s assists came in the second half, which Tennessee won 52-29.
