Sophomore Derrick Williams had 26 points and 11 rebounds - and a
likely game-saving block with one second left - to lead No. 13 Arizona
to its eighth straight victory, 87-86 over Washington on Saturday.
Williams
rejected Darnell Gant's short shot in the lane after Solomon Hill’s
layup with 22 seconds left was the final basket in the hard-fought
back-and-forth battle.
Sophomore Lamont Jones scored 15 points,
and Kevin Parrom and Jesse Perry had 11 apiece for the Wildcats (23-4,
12-2 Pac-10), who lead UCLA by 1 1/2 games. UCLA, which plays at
California on Sunday, hosts Arizona on Feb. 26.
Matthew
Bryan-Amaning had 24 points and nine rebounds, and Isaiah Thomas added
12 points and nine assists for Washington (18-8, 10-5 Pac-10), which had
its three-game winning streak snapped and fell out of Pac-10 title
contention.
